White Gold or Yellow Gold? Here’s How to Find the Right Metal that Matches Your Skin Tone
There’s a lot of things to consider when we are choosing an outfit---Color, mood, and style. The same goes for jewelry. The best way to decide the type of metal to wear is to know our skin tone. Although we are used to terms “morena” and “mestiza”, these have different shades and there is another way to determine our skin tone.
Warm or Cool
There are two types of skin tones--- warm and cool. So how would you know if you have a warm or cool skin tone? There are various means to find out which category your skin tone falls into and the most common way is to look at your wrists where the veins are visible. This is a part of the body that hardly alters its color due to weather conditions. If your veins are bluish into some shades of violet, then you have a cool skin tone. If there’s a hint of green, you’re most likely to have a warm skin tone. Try your best to have the best judgment on this one.
Another way is to do the paper test. Grab a piece of bond paper and hold it up to your neck area down to your chest. If your skin appears yellowish or sallow, you might have a warm skin tone. However, if it appears pink, rosy or bluish-red, you have a cool skin tone.
The neck and chest area is the best part of a skin tone test rather than a face because faces tend to look naturally reddish due to hormones.
If none of these tests determine your skin type or skin tone, it might be neutral.
Yellow Gold or White Gold?
White gold looks better on cool skin tones because of its crisp shade. It could be shiny or dull and that one is all up to you! On the other hand, yellow gold compliments warm skin tones better, be it shiny or burnish.
Hack the Colors
If you think there’s nothing you can do about your skin tone and the metals, you may opt to explore them further. You can still wear whatever type of metal you have regardless of your skin tone by maintaining a balance between them. For instance, you have a warm skin tone but have a lot of silver jewelry to wear, you can match it by putting on warm make-up colors like toned down eyeshadow and lipstick.
It’s not easy to decide if the jewelry suits you or not if you’re only considering the things that you currently have. Keep in mind that the most important thing is that you’re comfortable with how you look and your jewelry will augment your strong features.
