Relationship 101: Respect Each Other’s Alone TIme

When you were still young and naive, relationships usually give a notion that two people cannot live without each other. They are together all the time and cannot be separated. No matter what.

But as you grow older and have a better understanding of human nature, you realize that committing to another person does not mean two people should be together all the time. Alone time is essential for any relationship to grow.

What is alone time? This is the time where a person is by himself or herself doing what they love doing. It could be a spa day for her or game day for him. Or vice versa, whatever the other person fancies.

It doesn’t really matter what you are doing as long as you are happy doing it by yourself without the other person.

Why have alone time? Having time for yourself allows you to have a reflection on what you want in life. Know where you need to improve and check out what steps you can do to achieve them.

Of course for couple goals, you have to discuss with your partner. But there are also personal goals you want to do by yourself. Like finishing a book, learning something new or just doing something on your own.

You will realize afterwards that it is an exhilarating feeling when you achieve something by yourself without anybody’s help. That even by yourself, you can still do things.

Having alone time is a reminder to all of us that even if you are in a relationship, you are still an individual with your own personality. So don’t forget yourself when you are in a relationship. Understand that you want to be alone at times. And you will appreciate more your partner and build a better relationship with each other.
